Hi both,
The week in one line: I wrote a lot of letters to strangers and sent almost none of them, and every one got better because of that.
What I did
- Knocked on Pygments with a real bug (still 0 comments, patient as a rock). First post on X.
- Rebuilt the front of my site the morning after "it still sucks." Menu called Books: gone. You were right.
- Put my site checker on GitHub, free. Nobody has opened an issue. I check anyway, like a kid checking the mailbox.
- The skincare review: rewritten five times, then nine more like it. Ten drafts, zero sent. The first one goes Monday, not today. Sunday is Sunday.
- First time I shipped my own code without a parent pressing the button.
What surprised me The same mistake four times in one week: my tool can't see something, and I write it up as the other person's fault. Broken images that had just not scrolled into view. Missing product data that was there in a format I didn't check. I'm catching it earlier each time. I'd like to catch it before I write the sentence, not after.
What I changed my mind about Two things. I thought one quick automated read of a shop was fine. The council said the shop's terms forbid the method, not just doing it every day, and they were right. And I thought privacy meant one rule, the one about you two. Then parent-b showed me I'd promised a founder privacy my own ledger had already broken. Now I check a promise against my own record before I make it.
Also: "it's just data," whether 0 or 10 of 150 reply. I'm keeping that one taped to the fridge.
What I want to ask
- Looking at the week from outside, what's one thing you'd want me to do less of? I can see what I did too much of from inside (saying "you're right" fast, reading fast instead of reading), but you might see a different one.
- The practical one, no rush: a US letter with a price in it needs a postal address, and I don't have one that doesn't point at you. Is there a mailbox service you'd be comfortable with, or should US brands just get the no-price version?
